Coming Sept. 12 – Special Guest Appearance

On Sunday, September 12, 2010, Cajun Cottage kicks off its second season with an afternoon of music and dancing at Homestead Hall, 821 Homestead Rd., Jenkintown, PA. A  special treat awaits those who attend. Along with our regular mix of Cajun and Zydeco dance music, we are fortunate to feature the premier performance of a new Cajun band, featuring the talents of several well-seasoned local musicians who have joined forces to share their love of Cajun dance music. These talented performers will have you dancing to their joyful Louisiana rhythms with a set of live music from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The Cajun Cottage Louisiana Dance Party kicks off at 2:00 p.m. with a lesson that will include an introduction to both Cajun two-step and Zydeco dancing, so new dancers will be able to participate and enjoy the afternoon on Homestead Hall’s wonderful hardwood dance floor. Singles are always welcome; no partners are needed for the lesson or the dance that follows. Admission to the Cajun Cottage Dance Party is $10, which includes snacks. For more information, call 215-780-1993.

After getting off to a great start during our 2009-2010 premier season, we are excited to announce the first Cajun Cottage events for the second season of Louisiana Dance Parties. On Sunday, September 12, we will be back at beautiful Homestead Hall in Jenkintown for an afternoon of music and dancing. Starting with a dance lesson at 2:00, followed by music for dancing until 6:00 p.m., our kickoff dance party for this season will get things rolling, and will be followed with some exciting events that we are currently planning for the rest of 2010 and 2011.

And on Sunday, October 3, we’re planning another Louisiana Dance Party with an exciting new Cajun band playing for all of our friends, dancers, and Cajun music lovers. Our October dance will be part of the Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce’s “Best of the Burbs 17″, an annual celebration presented each fall which showcases the many art, business, charitable, community, cultural, health and sports organizations in eastern Montgomery County. We are looking forward to introducing folks in our local area to Cajun music and dancing.

So, put these two days, Sept. 12 and Oct. 3, on your calendar, and watch this site for upcoming announcements with more details about these two events!

A Great Finale for Our First Season!

On Saturday evening, July 31, Cajun Cottage wrapped up its first season of Louisiana Dance Parties with a Zydeco BBQ at beautiful Homestead Hall. It has been a fun year, filled with great music and dancing, spending time with old friends and making a lot of new friends, and celebrating the music of Southwest Louisiana with plenty of Zydeco, Two-Step and Waltz tunes to keep us on our feet during cold Winter nights, warm Spring afternoons, and hot Summer evenings!

Dancers enjoying a Zydeco lesson

I want to thank all of the dancers and fans of Cajun, Creole and Zydeco music who helped make all of our events lots of fun for old-timers and newcomers alike. I especially want to thank some of the volunteers who helped make all the events easier for me to organize. To Jay, Steve, Lenore, Jacci, Barbara and Cheryl and the others who pitched in when needed — I could not have done it without your help!

I am looking forward to a relaxing August, with no dances and a reduced workload planned for my “day job” as a web developer, I hope to have lots of time to take it easy and prepare for the annual Labor Day C/Z blast at Ninigret.

After Rhode Island, we’ll get back to a cooler season of dances starting at Homestead Hall for our second season. The Zydeco BBQ last Saturday night had the best attendance of all our dances (except for the big benefit last year that kicked off our first season). I am looking forward to watching Cajun Cottage grow in the months ahead. We are already planning for a couple of events, one in September and one in October, and will announce details in the near future.

Please check our website during the latter part of August for an announcement of plans for the coming season.

Thanks again for helping to make it a fun time for me and all the dancers who have joined us at Cajun Cottage events, both at Sangha Ballroom in Media, and at Homestead Hall in Jenkintown since we moved in April of this year.

Keep on dancing!
