On Saturday evening, July 31, Cajun Cottage wrapped up its first season of Louisiana Dance Parties with a Zydeco BBQ at beautiful Homestead Hall. It has been a fun year, filled with great music and dancing, spending time with old friends and making a lot of new friends, and celebrating the music of Southwest Louisiana with plenty of Zydeco, Two-Step and Waltz tunes to keep us on our feet during cold Winter nights, warm Spring afternoons, and hot Summer evenings!
I want to thank all of the dancers and fans of Cajun, Creole and Zydeco music who helped make all of our events lots of fun for old-timers and newcomers alike. I especially want to thank some of the volunteers who helped make all the events easier for me to organize. To Jay, Steve, Lenore, Jacci, Barbara and Cheryl and the others who pitched in when needed — I could not have done it without your help!
I am looking forward to a relaxing August, with no dances and a reduced workload planned for my “day job” as a web developer, I hope to have lots of time to take it easy and prepare for the annual Labor Day C/Z blast at Ninigret.
After Rhode Island, we’ll get back to a cooler season of dances starting at Homestead Hall for our second season. The Zydeco BBQ last Saturday night had the best attendance of all our dances (except for the big benefit last year that kicked off our first season). I am looking forward to watching Cajun Cottage grow in the months ahead. We are already planning for a couple of events, one in September and one in October, and will announce details in the near future.
Please check our website during the latter part of August for an announcement of plans for the coming season.
Thanks again for helping to make it a fun time for me and all the dancers who have joined us at Cajun Cottage events, both at Sangha Ballroom in Media, and at Homestead Hall in Jenkintown since we moved in April of this year.
Keep on dancing!
