NYE Tickets – Get ‘Em While They Last

Tickets for the 2nd Annual Zydeco New Year’s Eve are selling quickly. This post is just a reminder that there will be no ticket sales at the door on 12/31. The tickets are being sold on a first come, first served basis, so please plan to join us for a great evening of music and dancing to ring in the New Year.

For those who have not yet been to Homestead Hall, it is a beautiful old greystone social hall with a wonderful hardwood dance floor and decent acoustics for live music. It’s a great place for a party, and we’re going to have a good one on New Year’s Eve!

Sept. 17 Creole Boogie Dinner Dance

Featuring Live Music by Levee Riders Zydeco

Levee Riders ZydecoOn Saturday evening, September 17, Cajun Cottage will launch its third season of Louisiana Dance Parties with a Special Event featuring live music by Levee Riders Zydeco and a Creole Dinner prepared by Chef Linda Jacobs of Soup to Nuts Caterers of New Hope.

Levee Riders Zydeco is a new band formed by Keith “K.D.” Hoffman, formerly of Mitchell’s Cajun Aces, along with several other talented local musicians including Randy Lippincott on guitar, Joanne Hill on bass, Karen Lerman on rubboard, and Steve Ferraro on drums. In July, Levee Rider Zydeco opened the show at Arn & Jerry’s Danceathon, and those who were there know how much promise this new band holds for those who love dancing to traditional Creole and Zydeco music.

Doors open at 6:45, and the evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a delicious Creole Dinner prepared by Soup to Nuts Caterers, winner of The Philadelphia Inquirer Neighbors’ Choice Award for Best Caterer in Bucks County. The menu will include a salad, a choice of shrimp or vegetarian gumbo, chicken and sausage jambalaya, red beans and rice, cornbread and dessert. Soft drinks and water will be included; guests may BYOB (beer and wine only). A Zydeco dance lesson will be offered at 7:30, and the band will take the stage for two sets of dancing starting at 8:30 p.m. The Creole Boogie Dinner Dance will be held at Homestead Hall in Jenkintown. Its beautiful ballroom features air conditioning and a hardwood floor that is a pleasure for dancers.

In order to have the right amount of food for the Creole Dinner, we are pre-selling tickets for this event. The admission price of $22.50 includes dinner, the dance lesson, and dancing to live music until 11:30 p.m. Tickets can be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking on the “Get Your Tickets” button on the right side of this page, or by calling 215-780-1993 to reserve your place and get additional information about where to mail your check.

Summer Break!

Our last Louisiana Dance Party of the season, held at Homestead Hall in Jenkintown on Saturday evening, June 25, was a huge success! Thanks to C’est Bon Cajun Dance Band for providing the terrific music that kept everyone dancing all night long … Barbara, Susi, Jane, Betsy, and Evie, with Paul on drums, really rocked the place. And thank you to special guest Jesse Lége, who sat in with the band for several songs!

Also, thanks to all the Philly area dancers who came out in force to enjoy the band and support our fundraising efforts. The Silent Auction included items that were purchased by those present for a total of over $1,100. When the money has been donated, we’ll post again about our chosen recipient(s).

Thank you to the volunteers who helped make this event run smoothly: Jay Lebenkoff, who made phone calls to help arrange auction items, came early to help set up and stayed late to help clean the hall; Jacci Schlegel, Karen Lerman, and Barbara Kirk who helped with the food service area and the admissions table, and my wife Cheryl, who helped with the Silent Auction table.

Thank you to everyone — dancers and volunteers—who helped make Cajun Cottage’s second season a fun time for me. A special thank you to Robert McLaughlin of The Centre for Well Being for hosting our New Year’s Eve party as well as our monthly dances from January through May!

I am looking forward to enjoying the summer break, with lots of dancing during July (see Events) and lots of relaxing in August. We will return with our third season of Louisiana Dance Parties in September. Keep an eye on this site for an announcement, by mid-August, with the date and details for our September event.
