On Saturday evening, Sept. 17, our Fall season of Cajun Cottage Louisiana Dance Parties kicked off its Fall season on a high note with a fun evening of Creole music and food enjoyed by a happy crowd of about 80 dancers and friends.
Soup To Nuts Cuisine of New Hope provided a delicious Creole meal for about 50 diners, which was topped off by a delicious bread pudding dessert from Linda Jean’s Grille in Wyncote. A large group of about 20 attendees who were new to Cajun Cottage and Zydeco dancing got a beginning Zydeco dance lesson. Our group of new dancers learned quickly, and most picked up the basics very easily. By the end of the hour, they were eager to enjoy some live music and dancing.
Levee Riders Zydeco was ready to play for them, and delivered two high energy sets of music that kept everyone on the dance floor all night long. A highlight of the evening came during the second set, when Bill Nixon on fiddle and Papo Gely on guitar sat in for a couple of numbers that rocked Homestead Hall, with K.D. Hoffman’s accordion joined by the soaring sounds of our guest musicians.
I would like to thank Levee Riders Zydeco and all of the dancers, friends and neighbors who attended our September Creole Boogie Dinner Dance, and for helping to make it a huge success and a great start to what we hope will be an increasingly exciting season of Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco dance parties and special events!

The Centre for Well Being, located at 7880 Oxford Ave., Philadelphia, has been the location of some great Cajun and Zydeco parties hosted by its owner, Robert McLaughlin. Most recently, it was the scene of the Cajun Cottage New Year’s Eve Party, with nearly 50 friends and dancers welcoming the start of 2011. Some of our Cajun musician friends jammed a bit, we danced to music played by DJ Ray (thanks, Ray!), and toasted the New Year when the ball dropped.
