Convict Waltz on youtube – Milton Vanicor on fiddle, Steve Riley on accordion
Fiddler Milton Vanicor was part of the Lacassine Playboys that played with Iry LeJeune, who wrote Convict Waltz.
O, moi je m’en vas,
condamne pour quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans.
C’est juste rapport aux paroles toi, t’as dit
qui m’a fait souffert aussi longtemps pour ca.
(Oh, me, I’m leaving,
condemned for 99 years.
It’s because of the words you said,
that made me suffer so long.)
O, tous les soirs,
moi, je me couche avec des larmes dans mes yeux.
C’est pas de toi, bebe, je m’ennuie autant,
c’est de ces chers enfants je connais qui miserent.
(Oh, every night,
me, I go to sleep with tears in my eyes.
It’s not for you, baby, that I’m so lonely,
it’s for those dear little children
who I know are suffering.)
O, tit fille, c’est pas la peine,
tes menteries vont rester sur ta conscience.
La verite va peut-etre te faire du mal,
mais quelqu’un va toujours te recompenser.
(Oh, little girl, it’s not worth the trouble,
your lies will stay on your conscience.
Maybe the truth will hurt you,
but someone will always pay you back.)
On Sunday, November 14, live music returns to Cajun Cottage with a performance by Alligator Zydeco. This great local Zydeco band has been playing throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond for more than 15 years, and we are excited to have them perform at Homestead Hall in Jenkintown for our November Louisiana Dance Party. The band plays a mix of traditional Zydeco covers and Zydeco versions of more contemporary music, as well as a unique style of Zydeco based on an old accordion technique that bandleader Greg Troiano learned from the great Roy Carrier, that he refers to as “cross row style”, played on a triple row diatonic accordion.
On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, Cajun Cottage, in conjunction with the Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, presents a “Best of the Burbs” Special Event, a Louisiana Dance Party with live music by The Cajun Cottage Band. The Dance Party will be held at beautiful, historic Homestead Hall, 821 Homestead Rd., Jenkintown, PA, directly behind The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour at York and Homestead Rds.
